Carolyne's class is based on utilizing the Swiss ball to both enhance the pelvic floor and core trunk stabilizers role and to prevent over-stressing vulnerable areas (ie, knees, ankles and also pelvic floor muscles). She uses the latest theoretical models of the importance of strengthening transveres abdominus, and in turn, multifidus, rather than external muscle groups.
Carolyne's program not only reduces the risks of any diastesis of the rectus abdominus so often associated with exercise during pre- and post-natal periods, but also to facilitate and enhance the return of normal pelvic floor function. This latter point is extremely valid in the prescription of exercise to women suffering from stress incontinence as it has been shown that optimal numbers of the traditional Kegel's exercises (80 - 100 per day) are far in excess of any likely adherence by patients (max. 50 - 60 per day). Carolyne's class strengthens the pelvic floor throughout the entire session.
Carolyne's practical training sessions were very well organized and she linked all exercises shown to the theory underlying the exercise and specifics of which muscles were being worked. It was very logical and easy for physiotherapists to follow and I would highly recommend her course.
Since September 2002 I have personally been teaching the pregnancy exercise class on the ball, and since January 2003 also the post-natal repair programme that Carolyne has developed.
Not only have I found the programmes to benefit the participants, with many of the ladies reporting active labours that they found they were fit enough to cope with, but it has been enjoyable for all those involved.
As a Chartered Physiotherapist I feel confident that with Carolyne's class I am offering the best possible application of theory to practice in an enjoyable class for women pre- and post-natally. I have even adapted some of Carolyne's exercises into our EBP Bone Loading exercise class for menopausal women as I feel the theoretical background to the strengthening of transverse abdominus and the pelvic floor is relevant to women of all ages.

Not only is Carolyne excellently trained in Pilates and dance, she is an exceptional teacher and fitness professional as exhibited by her dedication to planning our classes with emphasis on addressing the weaknesses she has observed. In addition, Carolyne is always cognizant of preventing injury, and seeking the cause for weaknesses and offering exercises designed to alleviate muscular discomfort. What makes Carolyne truly exceptional in addition to that already mentioned is her honesty and integrity as a person and a professional.

Carolyne's Pilates class is the "Real Deal". Not only do we get a great workout, but the techniques behind what we do are solid. Carolyne's thorough knowledge of physiology, backed up by her own strength and grace, give us the confidence to stretch into realms we didn't realize were possible (pun intended!). An added bonus is that the class environment is just plain FUN!

After nearly five years of living the sedentary office worker life, it took 55 pounds of pregnancy weight to drive me me to pick up an exercise routine. I started Carolyne's Postpartum Fitness Program when my daughter was 5 months old, and now that she's 13 months, I can honestly say that Carolyne is the reason I am now 15 pounds healthier than my pre-pregnancy weight. It's not the weight that matters, it's the sense of achievement, confidence, and pride in being a woman and a mother that Carolyne's program helped instill in me.
